BOEY
A rapid-onset, short-duration botulinum toxin for the lines between the eyebrows: it starts working within hours and the effect wears off in about two to three weeks. A way to try treatment if you are curious but still hesitant, available at our clinic in Lisbon.
BOEY is a prescription-only medicine. Whether it is right for you is always decided by the doctor after an individual assessment. It is not currently licensed by the MHRA in the UK.

What is BOEY?
BOEY (trenibotulinumtoxinE) is a type E botulinum toxin developed by Allergan Aesthetics, the company behind Botox. It was authorised in the European Union in July 2026 for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows in adults, when these lines have a significant psychological impact.
It works like other botulinum toxins: it temporarily relaxes the muscle that causes the expression line. The difference is timing. Type E starts working faster and is cleared much more quickly than type A, the toxin used in Botox.
That makes it particularly relevant if you have never had toxin and feel hesitant, had a poor experience before, or want to see how it looks before committing to an effect that lasts months.
At a glance
- Botulinum toxin type E
- Approved use: frown lines between the eyebrows
- Five small injections, about 15 minutes
- Effect from around 8 hours
- Peak effect at around day 7
- Wears off in about 2 to 3 weeks
Recovery and Care
What to Expect
During the Session
Five small injections are given between and above the eyebrows with very fine needles, in a session of about 15 minutes. The doctor asks you to frown so the muscles to treat can be identified precisely.
In the First Hours
There is no downtime and you can return to your normal activities straight away. The effect starts to show from around 8 hours and most of it is visible by the next day.
In the Following Weeks
The peak effect comes at around day 7. Between the second and third week it starts to fade and, after about a month, your expression is back to normal. At that point we review the experience with you, by video call if you are back in the UK.
BOEY
Who May It Suit?
You have never had botulinum toxin and worry about not liking it or not looking like yourself
You would like to see the result before committing to an effect that lasts months
You had a poor experience before, or saw someone with an unnatural result
You want a short effect, for example around an event or a holiday
You are in good general health with realistic expectations: BOEY softens expression lines but does not treat laxity or static lines
BOEY is not suitable if you are allergic to botulinum toxin or any ingredient, have a neuromuscular condition (such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome) or have an infection at the treatment site. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the decision is always discussed with the doctor.
Your Journey
From Consultation to Review
Consultation
We listen to what bothers you and to your doubts. The doctor assesses the area at rest and on frowning, with a mirror and photographs, and explains the options, including when the best answer is not to treat. The first conversation can take place by video call.
Treatment in Lisbon
Five small injections, in about 15 minutes. On the same day we book the review for about a month later.
Follow-up
We check in with you the next day and ask for a photo at around day 7, when the effect is at its peak.
Review
About a month later we compare the photos and review the experience, by video call if needed. If you liked it, the doctor may suggest a longer-lasting toxin; if not, there is no commitment.
Important Information
Risks and Considerations
The BOEY clinical programme included more than 2,000 participants across four trials. In the two main studies, around 73% of people treated (386 of 532) had mild or no lines between the eyebrows at day 7, compared with 0.5% in the placebo group.
- Headache: the most common side effect in the studies
- Drooping eyelid or eyebrow: uncommon, up to 1 in 100 people
- Exaggerated arch at the end of the eyebrow: rare
- Minor bruising or redness at the injection points: temporary
- Approved only for the lines between the eyebrows; not indicated for other areas
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I don't like the result?
The effect starts to fade after two to three weeks and, after about a month, your expression is back to normal. It is designed for people who want to try treatment without a long commitment.
Will I need to keep having treatment after BOEY?
No. There is no obligation to repeat it. If you like the result, the doctor may suggest a longer-lasting toxin; if you don't, you simply stop.
What is the difference between BOEY and Botox?
Both are botulinum toxins, but of different types. BOEY (type E) starts working within hours and lasts about two to three weeks; Botox (type A) takes two to four days to work and lasts four to six months.
Can I have Botox after BOEY?
Yes. The studies followed people who moved from BOEY to a type A toxin, with no loss of effectiveness. The timing is agreed at the review consultation.
Is BOEY available in the UK?
BOEY is not currently licensed by the MHRA, so it is not available in the UK. It is authorised in the European Union and we offer it at our clinic in Lisbon after an individual consultation.
